How To Help Your Child Use The Power of Language

Language can hurt us, but it also has the power to heal us. And the language we speak to ourselves is often more important than what others talk to us. Today, we want to introduce you to the power of affirmations and how they can help your child become a better version of themselves.

What are affirmations?

Affirmations are positive statements that can be used to reprogram the subconscious mind. French psychologist Emil Coué popularised affirmations in the early 20th century. Coué believed that repeating positive messages to oneself could bring about significant changes in one’s life. He coined the phrase “Every day, in every way, I am getting better and better” as a powerful affirmation that can be used to boost confidence and promote positive thinking.

  1. Identify areas of improvement: The first step to using affirmations is to identify the aspects in your child’s life where they want to see progress. It could be their academic performance, behaviour, relationships, or any other area they feel they could improve.
  2. Creating positive affirmations: Once you’ve identified the areas of improvement, create positive affirmations that your child can repeat to themselves. For example, suppose your child wants to improve their academic performance. In that case, they could use “I am confident in my ability to learn and improve my grades.”
  3. Repeating affirmations: Once your child has finalised a statement that works for them, encourage them to repeat them to themselves every day. This practice can be done in the morning when they wake up, before bed, or throughout the day. Encourage them to do it consistently and to take the time to focus on the words they are saying.
  4. Using reminders: To ensure your child remembers to repeat their affirmations, use reminders such as sticky notes or phone alarms or set a specific time in their daily routine. Such reminders may soon lead to forming this positive habit.

By using affirmations, your child can rewire their brain to focus on their goals and achieve them. Affirmations can help them develop a positive mindset, leading to improved academic performance, behaviour, and relationships.

The language we speak to ourselves has a powerful impact on our lives. By using positive affirmations, we can help our children improve and become the best version of themselves.

Encourage your child to try using affirmations to see how they can make a positive difference.

Give it a try, and let us know how it works for your child!
